Casting News For OWN's Scripted Series

John Schneider

Tyler Perry has cast John Schneider as the head of a wealthy family in The Haves and the Have Nots on OWN. John is the first person cast for the drama thus far so I am curious as to what the rest of the cast will look like.

Patrice Lovely
Love's Diner, the comedy from TP set to debut on OWN around the same time has several cast members already with the lead being played by Patrice Lovely. Kendra Johnson is also a part of the cast as is Palmer Williams, Andre Hall, Darmirra Brunson, and Jonathan Chase.

Silver Linings Playbook: My Review

Over my birthday weekend I finally saw multi Oscar nominated Silver Linings Playbook, a movie I had been wanting to see since I saw the trailer last year and read the book of the same title. It revolves around a bipolar man named Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) who is released from a mental institution into his parent's care. The reason for Pat being institutionalized in the first place: finding his philandering ex wife in the shower with a fellow teacher from the high school they both worked at. Pat's problem is that he went for years with an undiagnosed bipolar disorder. When he found his wife in the shower with another man it resulted in a beat down of epic proportions that caused Pat to lose his job and get locked up.

Tiffany Maxwell (Jennifer Lawrence) has issues of her own resulting from the loss of her husband. Pat's best friend Richie and his wife Tiffany's sister decide to set the two up and what results is not your atypical boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl love story. There's dancing, there's the Philadelphia Eagles, and Chris Tucker, Robert DeNiro, and Jacki Weaver in supporting roles that left this moviegoer wanting more.

If you want a good time at the theatre, go support this well acclaimed movie. This is definitely one worth the price of admission!

The Carrie Diaries: My Review

I was the world's biggest Sex and the City fan, and when that show ended it left a serious void in my Sunday night viewing. The CW has decided to bring Carrie Bradshaw back to the small screen  with the The Carrie Diaries, a look at her adolescent years in Conneticut and her introduction to Manhattan. Anna Sophia Robb is a great teenaged Carrie complete with blonde ringlets and high heels. Her clique consists of high school pals Mouse, Meg, and Walt and this show's Mr. Big is a rich transfer student named Sebastian who has also caught the eye of Carrie's rival Donna. Carrie's  pals all have their own personal dramas (lost virginity, closeted homosexuality, an affair with an older guy). Sebastian's biggest issue thus far is an M.I.A. mom.

Seeing Carrie's origins is interesting. Dori, her 14 year old sister is having a hard time dealing with the death of their mother as is her dad. Who knew Carrie had a sister because she was never mentioned on SATC? Who even knew she grew up in Conneticut? What isn't surprising is how quickly Carrie falls in love with Manhattan. After he dad gets her an internship at a stuffy law firm, Carrie soon meets Larissa a saucy Brit who covets Carrie's purse in a department store. Larissa works for Interview Magazine and wants to use Carrie's purse (which is really her mom's but thanks to a nail polish accident and quick thinking by our fashion forward Carrie, now has a funky design and is emblazoned with Carrie's name) in a photo shoot for the magazine. Larissa also invites Carrie out for a taste of NYC nightlife that furthers Carrie's infatuation with Manhattan and the various creative types that make up Larissa's circle of friends.

I like this show and will definitely support it in weeks ahead. I would say I like the cultural diversity of the show and that was something that was missing on the original (with the exception of Blair Underwood in season 6). I would like to see more of Carrie's high school circle, more Manhattan, and less of the grieving dad and sister. I also am psyched to see how Carrie's love of writing progresses since she begins journaling thanks to her dad giving her some of her late mother's blank journals.

Did any of you watch? What did you all think of Anna Sophia Robb as teenage Carrie?

The Reasons Behind Britney Spears X Factor Exit

Britney Spears has had enough of being a judge on X Factor, opting to go back to her roots as a recording artist and possibly doing a stint in Vegas.

I only watched Brit do her thing a few times on X Factor and never thought
she was comfortable in the role. I do look forward to hearing new dance music from her when it comes out. The new music will feature production from Ester Dean, will.i.am, and Hit Boy.

No word on a release date yet.

Destiny's Child News

Bey's 2013 Itinerary So Far

Busy does not seem like the right adjective to describe Beyonce Giselle Knowles. In addition to prepping new music and preparing to turn things out at the Super Bowl halftime show, Bey has been tapped to sing the National Anthem at the Presidential Inauguration and is also the cover girl for next month's GQ.  Here's the cover for those of you who have yet to see it.

Fifty Shades of Grey Will Be NC-17 According to Screenwriter

Screenwriter Kelly Marcel promises that her Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation will keep all the steam of the novels if she has anything to do with it.

I seriously doubt if Universal Pictures will allow it to be too raunchy due to NC-17 not being known to do boffo box office returns.

What do you think? Should Fifty Shades be toned down, or do you agree that the movie would only work with the X rated sex scenes. Comment below!

Vanderpump Rules: My Review

Lisa Vanderpump is one of the baddest chicks in Beverly Hills but her spinoff series Vanderpump Rules needs more Lisa and less of the pretty and shallow bar and waitstaff of SUR, her chic West Hollywood eatery. Stassi Schroeder is definitely the bitch of the SUR bunch, a pretty blonde who gets her rocks off by bullying newbies and her latest victim Scheana just happens to be the former lover of actor Eddie Cibrian, something that Stassi just can't forgive or forget since Eddie was married at the time of their 2 year affair. I get the distrust of Scheana, but Stassi is acting like Eddie was her hubby at the time of the affair. Frankly I think Stassi's attitude has more to do with Scheana being attractive and uber friendly with Stassi's live in boyfriend Jax, one of SUR's bartenders.

The other staff members Kristen, Tom, and Katie kind of blended into the background of the pilot but here's some background on them. Kristen and Katie are besties with Stassi and Kristen dates Tom, another bartender at SUR who also has his own band. I didn't catch the name of the band but they must be doing well since Tom mentioned they are headlining at The Viper Room, one of L.A.'s most popular venues for live music.. Kristen is a model/actress and has been dating Tom for 5 years and they seem to be pretty happy unlike Jax and and Stassi who's relationship is pretty tumultuous due to Stassi's insecurities and constant need to argue. Katie's boyfriend is also named Tom and he is not an employee at SUR, but he is best friends with Tom, the bartender. The only one I want to see more of is Peter, the hunky bar manager who was only seen a few times in this episode. He dated Stassi a few months and is the resident manwhore since he's dated pretty much the whole staff (minus the guys) at one point or another. Peter's nice to look at, and I need more of him Bravo! Less Stassi and more Peter would keep me tuning in.

Trey Songz Helps Take Texas Chainsaw to # 1

Most horror movies I watch on DVD, but there are a lot of you that choose to pay full price to see young college aged kids ripped to shreds and that was certainly evident this weekend since the # 1 film in the country was the latest Texas Chainsaw reboot.

The film got a C+ from moviegoers but the drawing point for most was seeing R&B crooner Trey Songz on the big screen.

Did any of you see it, and is it worth 2 hours of my time?

Sarah Michelle Geller Tries Her Hand At Comedy

Ringer was a show I did a piece on when it first premiered because I thought it was going to go the distance, but unfortunately it became a casualty due to bad ratings and waning interest amongst fans who jumped ship post a long hiatus.

Ringer's star, Sarah Michelle Geller has decided to give television another try with a sitcom about a couple of mothers and their adventures while the kids are away at school.

I must say the premise does not give me a whole lot of hope for this show's success.

What do you think?

Jennifer Lopez/Harper's Bazaar

Jennifer Lopez may not be returning to American Idol this season but she is gracing the cover of the February issue of Harper's Bazaar and her new movie Parker is set to open 1/25. Here's a look at one of the covers for the Fashion issue.

Halle Berry Has A "Call" On Her Life

Halle Berry has not been in a good movie in a while. The only reason people have been speaking of her as of late is mostly due to the drama surrounding her ex Gabriel Aubrey and their daughter Nahla. Hopefully The Call will put Berry back in the spotlight for her acting abilities, and we can forget about the personal drama surrounding the Oscar winner. At least for awhile.

The Call is set in an emergency call center, and Berry plays an operator named Jordan. Jordan takes a call from a kidnapped teen (Abigail Breslin) who is in the trunk of a car and needless to say the movie becomes a Cat and Mouse game of trying to pinpoint where the victim is.

Morris Chestnut is set to play the love interest and Michael Imperioli and David Otunga are in the film as well.  The film is set to open 3/15.

Kim Kardashian is the queen of keeping herself in the spotlight and on the last day of the year her pregnancy became the talk of social media. Kim whose pregnancy was announced by Kanye during a show is said to be twelve weeks along and doing just fine. It looks as if Blue Ivy will be getting a playmate come summer since the baby's due date is in June.
